The end of one year, the start of another!
It’s December 31st, 2011. What a great time to set new goals!
At the end of each year I love looking back and reflecting on what has happened. I thought I would share some questions with you that you could ask yourself because the quality of your questions determine the quality of your life.
You can either ask questions like “where did I go wrong?” or “why have I failed?” or you can ask yourself “what do I really want?” or “what went right?”
Like going out into the darkness – you can shine your torch on anything you choose – and whatever you illuminate with the beam of your torch will determine what you see. Funny that!
So here are some great questions that you can use to create the life you really desire. Most of these have been influenced by the books I’ve read. “Best Year Yet”, by Jinny Ditzler is one of my favourites for this time of the year. Or if you’d like to have a very quick goal setting workbook, then visit www.goalachieverworkshop.com and download my free ebook: The path to Achieving (unbelievable) goals.
Ask yourself:
What have I done particularly well in 2011?
Which goals have come about?
What interesting curve-balls came along?
What have I learnt?
Where do I want to be this time next year? (both physically and emotionally?)
What parts of my life am I happy with, and which parts would I like to change?
What do I really, really want?
Once again I am reminded how important it is to set goals that you’re passionate about. My mentor Bob Proctor talks about getting emotional about your goals – and if a goal is “scary and exciting” then it’s a good one for you! If you’re not excited about a goal that you set, then it’s probably a great goal for someone else, but might not be a good goal for you.
One of my favourite “Scary and exciting” goals of 2011 was to get 4-time bestselling author, the Millionaire maker: Loral Langemeier to Perth. Setting the goal early in August and getting her here in front of a room full of people in mid-September did cause some anxious moments, but it was a lot of fun and very successful. More importantly I have seen how it has already benefitted the businesses of several people who attended.
Another goal was to get the Dynamic Mastermind Alliance started. After numerous requests to introduce clients to other successful people in the area, and to set up a mastermind conversation to the benefit of it’s members. We have one group running in Perth so far, with more to begin in April.
Who are the members of the Dynamic Mastermind Alliance? Business owners who are keen to connect with each other, make a difference by sharing their expertise – and discover the quantam leaps that come from masterminding with others – each leaders in their own areas. The Dynamic Mastermind Alliance will be opening up a new international group that will meet on skype monthly. If you would like to know more, please email me on jill(at)evolvedynamic.net.
I would like to wish you a very happy New Year – and the very best of 2012. It will be a year just like any other, unless you change your goals! So if you’ve been happy with all the other years, then you’re probably on the right track!
Kind regards
Jill

I recently read a great book (for a change!) called Fierce Conversations, by Susan Scott.
She talks about the power of honest and open conversations in the workplace – how when we talk about what is really going on – that is when we get true results. Talking without fear is a key theme.
We have always known that organisations that use executive coaches get better results. These results can sometimes be hard to quantify. True conversation, with questions that challenge traditional thinking, provides the groundwork for change and to get to the heart of the issue. Something I love, as a business attitude coach, is to listen to leaders as they figure out what they really, really want for their business. They very seldom have time to simply reflect on where they’re at or where they’re wanting to go. Our time together provides the safe environment to explore the years ahead, and what they look like.
What makes employees more engaged? Leaders that are engaged. What makes leaders engaged?
Knowing what their goals are, why they’re here – and a decision to bring out the best in their team.
It takes commitment. Have you lost your mojo? Chances are, this is showing up in many areas of your life, not just in your office!
This extract from the Fierce Conversations blog provides some insight into the return on investment that companies get:
“The Gallup Organization found that companies with higher-than-average
employee engagement had 27 percent higher profits, 50 percent higher sales
and 50 percent higher customer loyalty than companies with lower-thanaverage
employee engagement.2
• Recent research sponsored by The Corporate Executive Board shows that
companies with “highly engaged employees” demonstrate an average threeyear
revenue growth of 20.1 percent, compared with 8.9 percent growth among
their industry peers, and establish a three-year growth of EBITDA (Earnings
Before Interest, Taxes, Depreciation and Amortization) three times higher than
their industry peers.3″
According to IBM’s recent Global Chief Executive Officer Study, organizations that are most successful today are “adopting new channels to engage and stay in tune with customers … (making) customer intimacy their number-one priority.” 5 This rising complexity of the business world demands that “CEOs and their teams … connect with customers in imaginative ways.”
“A key point to notice is that relationship will matter more than ever in an increasingly complex business world,” said Halley Bock, president of Fierce. “And relationship is created – or falls apart – one conversation at a time.”

Wayne Dyer says: “As you think so shall you be! Since you cannot physically experience another person, you can only experience them in your mind. Conclusion: All of the other people in your life are simply thoughts in your mind. Not physical beings to you, but thoughts. Your relationships are all in how you think about the other people of your life. Your experience of all those people is only in your mind. Your feelings about your lovers come from your thoughts. For example, they may in fact behave in ways that you find offensive. However, your relationship to them when they behave offensively is not determined by their behavior, it is determined only by how you choose to relate to that behavior. Their actions are theirs, you cannot own them, you cannot be them, you can only process them in your mind.” Dr Wayne Dyer quote.
Dr Wayne Dyer, Caroline Myss, Sonia Choquette, Brian L Weiss and Gregg Bradden visited Australia in August 2010. I attended the I Can Do It weekend which was extremely inspirational and enlightening

“If a steamship lost its rudder in mid-ocean and began circling around, it would soon exhaust its fuel supply without reaching shore, despite the fact that it would use up enough energy to carry it to shore and back several times. The man who labors without a definite purpose that is backed up by a definite plan for its attainment resembles the ship that has lost its rudder.
Hard labor and good intentions are not sufficient to carry a man through to success, for how may a man (or woman) be sure that he has attained success unless he has established in his mind some definite object that he wishes?”
If you’re not clear on where you really want to go, you may end up being very busy but not getting anywhere! You may also get frustrated, exhausted and burnt out.

Are emotions good or bad?
July 1, 2010 by bizblog
Filed under Change, Goals, Inspiration, Leadership
“It’s over, the mine’s closing – we’ve got to move.” These were the words I heard on January 21st 2009 at 7:49am when my husband called me from work. Three months later, over 1000 people who worked at the nickel mine were out of a job, including my husband.
This is the time when I truly realised how important it was to deal with emotions and to decide which feelings and emotions will serve us best to get us where we want to be.
I also realised how crucial it was to have a coach or mentor to hold me accountable to my goals, particularly at a challenging time like that; Someone who could focus my attention on the opportunities that this unique situation was presenting to me.
Are certain emotions bad? Are there some that we shouldn’t feel? What about the positive thinking fans – are they saying we should be happy all the time?
All emotions have a purpose. In my opinion all emotions are good and healthy!
No-one can tell you which emotions are the ones that are best for you at any point. You are the only one who can control your emotions by selecting which thoughts to plant in your conscious mind.
I use the word “control” lightly – I believe in controlling emotions through selective thoughts that create the feelings. If there is strong emotion due to a great event, it’s important to acknowledge it rather than try and push it down. What happens when you put a lid tightly onto a pot boiling on a stove? It tends to stay on there till the pressure is too strong, at which point it will burst right off. Feel the feelings and verbalise them if you can – channel them in a productive way.
If you are standing on a ledge on the 11th floor, then fear is probably a good emotion to have – it may make you cling to the building and shrink back inside or ask for help. With no fear at all in this instance, you might not live very long! (or is that the reason you were up on the 11th floor ledge anyway?)
Sometimes anger and/or frustration are what you need to get you out of your comfort zone and into action. Complacency keeps us where we are and doesn’t move us anywhere.
The key with emotions and feelings is to recognise that you have the ability to select which emotions you choose to feel for most of the time. Obviously if something happens – a disaster, losing a loved one, the instant reaction is to feel sad, scared or various degrees of upset.
Thoughts cause feelings. You can choose the thoughts that occupy your conscious mind on a daily basis (you can’t always prevent outside intervention from delivering an event that elicits a powerful emotion).
Think of a blackboard – was there a time in your school life that you had blackboards in your classroom? (I’m ageing myself here!) – do you remember when someone scraped their nails down the board and sent shivers down your spine? You can probably feel those shivers right now, even though you are no where near a blackboard! All I have done is planted a thought in your mind, and you instantly feel the feeling. This is how powerful your mind is!
You have the power to choose whether to have the TV on or off. You can listen to any radio station or youtube channel you choose. If one of your loved ones is watching something that gives you a feeling you’d rather not have right now, then you can walk away – you don’t have to sit and watch it!
Where do you really want to end up? What do you choose to do or to be for the rest of your life? If you want to be more successful in business, and are facing some economic challenges, then you might want to screen the information coming into your mind.
Bad news sells media more successfully than good news does, that’s simply a fact of life.
If you are listening to doom and gloom stories on the news, and dwell on these, you might feel down and despondent. Will this be the catalyst you need to get into action to increase your business? In some cases it might, but in most cases, this causes procrastination and a sense of feeling “what’s the point?”
Which emotions or feelings are going to serve you going forward? I would like to suggest that positive uplifting feelings (gratitude, happiness, laughter, optimism) would be more productive than the feelings that create a lower vibration, such as sadness, fear, anger.
Following that phonecall, I experienced first-hand the effects of selectively choosing my emotions. We could dwell in the thoughts of how unfair the situation was (we loved living in this beautiful little coastal village – and had only settled there 18 months before) or we could focus on what outcome we wished to experience. I chose to focus on the outcome, even though there were days where I would rather have yelled and screamed and got more frustrated!
As a new business owner, I recognised that one of the solutions was to increase business coming to me. The funny thing was that on days where I was focused on this aim, I was amazed at how many successful phonecalls I made, how I was invited to speak to businesses and groups far and wide. On days where I chose to go into town and chat to everyone, hearing all the stories of challenges various families were facing, even though I still felt optimistic – those were the days where I made little progress in my business.
You see, when our vibration is low, we don’t feel like taking the action to do the things that get us results. Put a thought into your mind, it creates the feeling, the feeling affects the action we take – and it’s the actions that get results.
When everything is hunky-dory, you can absorb a lot more than you can when you’re facing a challenge. Bad news is like water off a duck’s back when everything is going as you wish it to. But when you are faced with a challenge that you want to overcome or turn into a benefit, then you need to selectively only entertain thoughts that serve you to get where you want to go.
I would like to challenge you to think of which feelings and emotions are serving you right now? Are you feeling like a victim? That the company you worked for gave you a really raw deal? Perhaps they did – but your feeling like a victim and allowing it to eat into your soul is not doing anything to them – it’s only destroying you.
Do you feel like no-one appreciates what you do? Perhaps you’re not appreciating what you do! Bitterness twists your soul – and sours all the relationships you have.
If you would like to feel greater happiness, better business success and a more rewarding life, then you will probably decide to focus on the things around you that are going right. What are you grateful for? What thoughts do you need to think to get you there?
When your mind is occupied by positive thoughts, you are much better equipped to deal with the challenges life throws out. If you’re dwelling on the injustices, another challenge is going to feel like you’re drowning at sea and being hit by yet another wave.
Put everything into perspective:
What is the problem not?
Less than a month after the news of job losses and mine closures were announced, everything was put into perspective for us.
Bush fires in Victoria, Australia, claimed thousands of lives and homes – and went on for days. My heart went out to the families that lost loved ones, lost their homes and pets in the fire. The little issues we were facing were so tiny in comparison.
Look at whatever challenge you might be facing right now and identify what the problem really is, and what it’s not. Is it a matter of life and death? Is it a matter of health? Is it about money? Is it about relationships? Is it about business?
What positive memories or events could come out of this that could make a wonderful difference in your life? Sometimes it takes losing someone near and dear to us to shock us into valuing those left behind.
Have a wonderful day,
Kind regards
Jill

Are you driving on the wrong side of the road?
June 13, 2010 by bizblog
As I was driving along, appreciating the magnificence around me, with no other cars on the road, a gentleman walking on the other side of the road made hand gestures beckoning me to him. It took me a second to realise that he was gesturing for me to drive on the RIGHT hand side of the road!
There I was driving along the left side of the road, which is my regular side ala South Africa and Australia. I’d been driving in the States for a week and was rather proud of being able to switch to driving on the other side of the road yet again!
Our paradigms, beliefs and thoughts are very similar to this one habit. Driving on the left hand side of the road is my regular paradigm. It’s neither good nor bad – it just is!
I wouldn’t think to question why – as everyone does it in the countries I have lived in.
Choosing to change it without changing countries would mean risking my life, those of others and certainly would be breaking the law!
In South Africa and Australia, driving on the left hand side of the road is a good habit to have! It keeps you safe, it’s the acceptable behaviour of those in that country.
What if I held onto this habit so securely that I insisted on keeping it while travelling in the USA or parts of Europe? The very behaviour that keeps me safe in Australia is the one that will endanger me in America!
Sure, I could get away with it on some quiet country roads, but as soon as I chose to exercise it in Los Angeles, disaster looms! Could be a very expensive disaster too!
Which of your beliefs, paradigms, values, habits or behaviours served you once, but no longer serve you any more?
Which behaviour used to keep you safe, but is now holding you back?
Now is the time for you to re-evaluate everything that has formed the cornerstone of your life to see what is no longer serving you. What actions, thoughts and beliefs would you like to take on, going forward?
Do you want to run your business the same way as it’s always been run? What has worked for you? What needs an overhaul?
It can be challenging if you’re trying to redesign your life on your own, so get together with your coach or someone you trust who will hold you accountable to your goals and dreams. Find the person that will beckon you to the right side of the road when you are allowing old habits to steer you offtrack!
Balancing your Life Bike! by Mary Morrissey

Do you remember what it was like when you learned to ride a bike?
When you learn to ride a bike it’s really hard at first to know what balance feels like. You are riding along when you lean a little too far to the left and you end up scraping a knee. You think, “Oh that hurt!” so then you tend to lean too far to the right. That means you’d scrape another knee and ooh that hurts. Ultimately, you learned to tip less in either direction and you learned what it feels like to really be in balance. Now, the rest of our life isn’t very much different than that.
When we go too far one way or another, life tends to give us a scrape, or a bump, or sometimes a knock on the head. But, if we learn to really pay attention to that inner voice guiding us, we too can live a life of balance. We can live with ease and grace and that’s really what it’s like to live inside God’s will. Hopefully, today you just pay attention to the way you really feel in that expanded moment of balance. Know that, right in that moment, you are in the will of God. Many Blessings,
